Classes

At CrossFit Central Manchester we believe in the CrossFit Methodology.

One workout a day, hard and fast, mixing Weightlifting, Gymnastic and Monostructural elements (running, rowing, skipping), 5 to 6 times per week.

Our classes typically consist of 4 elements:

  • Warm up
  • Skill work
  • Workout
  • Cool down
 
Warm Up

Designed to get your heart rate up, warm up the muscle and maybe practice some movements that will come up later in the workout.

Skill Work

Is where we pick one or more elements from the Workout and spend time breaking down the movements, improving mechanics, warming up to the weight to be used in the workout and ensuring safety of all members.

Workout

Very simple, it’s the Workout of the Day (WOD). This is where we go hard, get sweaty, out of breath and have a great time! It’s the bit of the class that everyone looks forward to (looking forward to hard work, weird). But this is the bit where the true spirit of CrossFit shines through. It’s all about the camaraderie, support and working out with friends.

Cool-down

This can be many things but first of all it’s always going to be putting your equipment away. Following on from this it could be some stretching of muscles that may tighten up if left to go cold, foam rolling is always a firm favourite, usually involving sitting or lying down with a foam roller and chatting about the workout. Some coaches like to strip the weight back to an empty bar and just go over a few reps as a reminder of good technique.

It can take many forms, the main aim is not to cool down too quickly, as this can increase the chance of the dreaded DOMS taking over!
